DANIELE MACUGLIA 马大年

I am a historian of science. My work concerns the history of computation and the rise of computational statistical mechanics.

I am drawn to the years between the 1970s and the early 2000s, when molecular simulations—first conceived in the 1950s—crossed from a theoretical curiosity into the everyday apparatus of scientific work. I study that shift in its practical and conceptual dimensions, mostly in conversation with the scientists who lived through it.

I am an assistant professor and PhD supervisor in the Department of History of Science, Technology and Medicine, Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, at Peking University. What remains of my time goes to books, or to some country far from my desk.
